Behind the launch: production, costs & the first 10 orders
Production & manual fallback
Planned workflow: collect a photo and order brief in private storage; crop the pet and preserve distinctive markings; create original themed art using an image-editing model or manual illustration; add name and caption in an editable poster template; export a high-resolution JPG and print-ready PDF. The business owner must approve likeness, spelling, composition and exports before releasing files. If automation is unavailable, the owner performs these steps manually and uploads the finished files. Do not promise instant delivery.
Required integrations—not yet verified
Next.js hosting; Convex authentication, private photo storage and order records; Stripe Checkout and verified payment webhooks; an optional image-generation API; a transactional email provider; protected download links. The owner dashboard needs paid → in production → owner approved → delivered states. Customer order details and file access must be authenticated. This page’s local preview does not implement those backend steps.
Cost assumptions to validate before launch
Budget hosting at $20/month if a commercial paid plan is needed; Convex can start at $0 within current free limits, with paid usage priced by the selected plan; email can start at $0 within provider limits. Confirm commercial eligibility, storage and bandwidth allowances before accepting orders. Generation costs depend on model, resolution and retries: reserve an estimated $0.10–$1 per image, not a vendor quote. Manual editing software can be $0 using a suitable free tool; owner labor is additional and must be timed.
For a US domestic card, Stripe’s standard illustrative fee of 2.9% + $0.30 is about $0.65 on $12, $0.74 on $15 and $1.03 on $25. Rates vary by country, card and currency; taxes, refunds, disputes, domains and any paid subscriptions are additional. Exact operating costs require chosen vendors and current rate confirmation.
Test the first 10 paid orders
First test upload permissions, payment success/failure, duplicate webhooks, owner approval and download access in test mode. Then invite 10 consenting buyers organically, confirm delivery timing before payment, and fulfill manually if needed. Track offer chosen, production minutes, generation spend, likeness corrections, delivery success and gift satisfaction. Review all 10 before increasing volume; never deliver unreviewed artwork.
Organic marketing only
With permission, publish short photo-to-art reveals on TikTok, Instagram Reels and Facebook: show the original photo, the funny charge, then the finished artwork. Alternate these with genuine gift-reaction clips and behind-the-scenes owner reviews. Test three hooks and link to the studio; measure visits, preview use and paid orders. No invented reactions or testimonials. Advertising remains disabled until the owner explicitly authorizes spending.
